BRAINSPOTTING FOR ADULTS & YOUNG ADULTS IN COLORADO AND NEW YORK (TELEHEALTH)

Brainspotting Therapy

Brainspotting is a gentle, body-based approach that helps you access and process experiences that may feel difficult to reach through therapy or insight alone. Rather than requiring you to explain everything or follow a highly structured process, Brainspotting creates space for your nervous system to guide the work at its own pace.

I offer virtual Brainspotting therapy for adults and young adults experiencing trauma, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, persistent patterns, and experiences that seem to remain “stuck” in the body.

Sometimes you understand exactly why you feel the way you do, but understanding hasn’t changed how your body responds. Brainspotting offers another way in.

What Is Brainspotting?

BRAINSPOTTING IS A SOMATIC, BRAIN-BODY THERAPY THAT USES EYE POSITION TO SUPPORT DEEPER EMOTIONAL PROCESSING.

Brainspotting is based on the idea that where you look can influence what you feel. As we talk our eyes naturally gaze at different points in our visual field, particularly when we are speaking about something emotionally charged. In Brainspotting, we pay attention to those subtle shifts and may identify a particular gaze position, or “brainspot,” that seems connected with an emotion, body sensation, belief, or experience. Rather than analyzing the experience from your mind, you are invited to notice what naturally emerges internally while maintaining that gaze position.

One of the things that makes Brainspotting unique is that you do not need to know exactly what memory is connected to what you are feeling. You also do not need to describe every detail of an experience to me.

Brainspotting can be an excellent modality for people who remember very little about a difficult period of their life or who simply find verbalizing trauma overwhelming.

The goal isn't to force your mind to figure something out. It's to create enough space for your brain and body to notice, process, and integrate what is already there.

  • Understand your patterns intellectually but still feel emotionally or physically “stuck”
  • Have experienced trauma, chronic stress, relational wounds, or difficult life experiences
  • Feel strong emotions or body reactions without always knowing where they come from
  • Have limited or fragmented memories of past experiences
  • Find it difficult or exhausting to talk extensively about what happened
  • Experience anxiety, fear, shame, perfectionism, or persistent negative beliefs
  • Notice that certain situations trigger a response that feels bigger than the present moment
  • Want a therapy approach that incorporates the body and nervous system rather than relying on talk therapy and analysis

Who Might Benefit from Brainspotting?

YOU MAY BE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BRAINSPOTTING IF YOU:

Brainspotting can be used with both specific traumatic experiences and more complex or ongoing experiences, including attachment wounds, chronic stress, relationship patterns, and experiences that may not have one clear beginning or ending.

What Does Brainspotting Therapy Look Like?

We may begin by identifying something you would like to work with, such as an emotion, physical sensation, current trigger, belief, relationship pattern, or specific experience.

During Brainspotting, I help you notice where you feel the experience in your body and identify an eye position that appears connected with it. From there, we slow things down and allow your attention to remain with whatever naturally unfolds. Although we may begin with a fixed gaze position, the process can evolve dynamically based on what your nervous system is doing in the moment.

There may be periods of talking, quiet, emotional release, felt body sensations, memories, imagery, or seemingly unrelated thoughts. My role is not to direct you toward a particular conclusion, but to stay attuned to you and support the process as it unfolds. Brainspotting is dynamic and fluid and meets your nervous system where it’s at.

BRAINSPOTTING IS A COLLABORATIVE AND FLUID PROCESS THAT ALLOWS YOUR INTERNAL EXPERIENCE TO GUIDE THE SESSION.

How Brainspotting Supports Healing

We often try to resolve emotional pain through thinking: understanding why something happened, analyzing our reactions, or trying to tell ourselves that we're safe now.

That insight can be valuable. But sometimes our emotional and physiological responses do not change simply because we understand them.

Brainspotting incorporates focused attention, eye position, body awareness, and therapeutic attunement to facilitate a deeper form of processing. Rather than requiring you to consciously determine where the work needs to go, we stay curious about what emerges organically.

BRAINSPOTTING SHIFTS THE FOCUS FROM ANALYZING AN EXPERIENCE TO NOTICING WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE BRAIN AND BODY ARE GIVEN SPACE TO PROCESS IT.

The goal is not to erase what happened. It is to help the experience feel less dominant in your present life.

Over time, clients may notice:

  • Less emotional intensity around difficult experiences
  • Reduced activation around certain triggers
  • Greater awareness of emotions and body sensations
  • Shifts in beliefs that previously felt deeply ingrained
  • Increased capacity to stay present with difficult feelings
  • A greater sense of flexibility or freedom around old patterns

How Brainspotting Works in Telehealth Sessions

BRAINSPOTTING CAN BE USED EFFECTIVELY IN VIRTUAL THERAPY AND REQUIRES VERY LITTLE EQUIPMENT.
During an online session, I guide you in identifying the eye position we want to use in the session while you remain comfortably in your own space.

Depending on what feels supportive, our sessions may incorporate:

  • A fixed or slowly changing gaze position
  • Awareness of physical sensations and emotions
  • Mindful attention to what naturally emerges
  • Periods of talking and periods of quiet processing
  • Grounding and nervous system regulation when needed

Because Brainspotting does not require specialized equipment or continuous eye movements, it adapts naturally to telehealth.

Some clients also appreciate being able to do this deeper processing from an environment that already feels familiar and comfortable.
